An overview of the past ten years - of the Dutch and their cars, by CBS.

Car ownership and car kilometres amongst young people has declined over the past ten years, whereas car ownership and car kilometres amongst older people has increased significantly.

It is however important to note that the contribution of kilometres of the two age groups between 30 to 65 is significant and that overall the population has increased as well.

  • In 2015 all private cars together (lease cars are excluded) drove 91 billion kilometres. An increase of more than 6% versus the 86 billion kilometres in 2005.
  • The age group 50+ increased its kilometres by onethird.
